THE PROMOTION MARKETING AWARDS OF ASIA 2004 REACH NEW HEIGHTS OF PARTICIPATION

Competition Serves as Qualifier for the MAA Worldwide 2004 Globes Awards

Aug 02, 2004 SINGAPORE -- The Promotion Marketing Awards of Asia (PMAA) reached new heights, generating participation from 10 Asian countries and receiving 35 percent more entries over last year. The Asian competition serves as one of 25 worldwide qualifiers for the Marketing Agencies Association (MAA) Worldwide’s annual Globes Awards program.

“There was a strong consolidation of promotion marketing work throughout Asia, particularly for work being carried out in Malaysia, China and Indonesia. We were especially pleased to see significant improvement in quality for the campaigns submitted from India this year. A particularly strong campaign was Pepsi Foods India’s “World Cup Cricket Campaign,” which ultimately garnered ‘Best in India’ recognition” said Mike Da Silva, a judge and PMAA Director. Mike also serves as International Executive Vice President for Asia South for the MAA Worldwide. Prior PMAA winners include Malaysia, Singapore (twice) and Korea, who last year won the GLOBES “Best in the World.”

"We saw some stand-out entries, but generally in the Gold through Bronze area of selection, judging was tight and often there were just a few points to separate the finalists. This reflects the rapidly growing quality of work currently being produced throughout Asia. I would urge more companies to enter more work next year. There is good work being done throughout the region, and official recognition at Asian and global levels through the PMAA and MAA Worldwide GLOBES Programmes are good for entrants, and good for our industry. Promotional marketing is a fast-growing area and obviously one where good strategies and creative executions need to be recognised and rewarded. And remember, award-winning entries can come from any category at any budget level. A big budget is not necessarily a first step into winning awards," said David Bridgman, Chairman of Judges for PMAA 2004 and Regional Director Asia, for Publicis Dialog.

“Promotion Marketing is experiencing exponential growth in Indonesia as more and more products and services realise the inherent value and benefit of establishing direct contact with consumers,” said Madhur Shorey, Marketing Communications Consultant from Jakarta and PMAA Zonal Director for Indonesia. This year 45 PMAA Winners will take on the best from Europe, the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and South America in the MAA Worldwide’s GLOBES Programme. The worldwide Globes winners will be announced October 26 in Miami USA.
